According to officials in Sialkot, workers of a private factory on Wazirabad Road tortured a non-Muslim foreign manager of a factory to death and set it on fire for blasphemy.

"The foreign manager was killed for blasphemy and his body was set on fire," a city administration official said.

"The foreign manager of the slain factory was from Sri Lanka," he said.

A city administration official added that "the security situation in the area is deteriorating and efforts are being made to control it."

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has taken notice of the incident at Sialkot factory and demanded a report from Inspector General of Police.

In a statement, Usman Bazdar said that every aspect of the incident should be investigated and a report should be submitted.

The incident took place within the limits of Agoki police station in Sialkot. Agoki police official Ijaz told Urdu News that the incident took place inside the factory.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tahir Ashrafi termed the incident as an example of 'barbarism'.


He confirmed that the dead man was from Sri Lanka, but declined to give his identity.

Sialkot incident: '50 people arrested '

After the incident, Punjab government spokesman Hassan Khawar told a press conference in Lahore with the Prime Minister's Special Representative for the Middle East Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi and the IG that the Sialkot incident was being investigated if there was any negligence on the part of the police. Pakistan's Minister for Human Rights Shirin Mazari condemned the incident, saying "mob violence is not acceptable under any circumstances because the state has laws to deal with all crimes."
